Belize City is not known for its fine dining, in fact both San Pedro and Placencia win first and second place respectively in the fine dining division.

Residents’ priority is a big lunch of stewed chicken with rice and beans. Expect many authentic Belizean options but only a small handful of recommended restaurants for Belize City. —

Dining, Bar and Café options at the Radisson Fort George Hotel & Marina
The Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina is the undoubted leader for large hotel accommodations and as such their various food and beverage facilities ranks high, but overall dining at the Radisson is not considered to be among the best in Belize City, but yes their presentation, cleanliness, etc is certainly considered to be first class.

On the negative side they have very few vegetarian options to offer.  Their food, beverage and services are all considered as being overpriced.

Le Petit 2

Le Petit does a brisk business for breakfast, especially amongst local workers. A variety of both sweet and savory baked goods and pastries from their in house bakery is available, as well as a wide range of coffee drinks (hot and cold) and natural fruit juices. Most of the seating is in an open-air courtyard, under shade trees and flower-covered trellises. If you come for lunch, or even dinner, (only light menu items ie sandwiches) you’re not bound to wash things down with a caffeinated brew; they have a small wine list.
Wi-fi is also available. —

Sumathi is owned by some Hindus serves an excellent, authentic, tasty Northern Indian food, so don’t let the ugly concrete facade turn you away.
The restaurant uses an authentic tandoori oven, a large clay oven with intense heat that cooks meat and seafood quickly, leaving it crispy on the outside and juicy inside.
Try the tandoori chicken, with cumin, ginger, and minty yogurt, served with naan (Indian flatbread). There is a top-notch array of vegetarian dishes, including kabuli channa (chick pea curry) and aloo gobi (a curry of cauliflower, potatoes, sweet pepper and ginger).
Service is attentive, and portions are generous.
This is the restaurant with the most vegetarian meals to offer.

riverside-tavern
Now this is a place you can take your guests.  Opened in May, 2006 it is owned and managed by the Belizean Bowen family (beverage dynasty) who are the bottlers of Belikin beer, Guinness Stout, crystal bottled water and the full line of coke soft drinks.

The place is immaculate, from the fenced, guarded and paved parking area, to the outdoor covered deck with a great view of the Haulover Creek, to the very nice looking and well equipped bar area inside.  The place is quite nice – exceptional by Belizean standards.

Riverside Tavern rose straight to the top of Belize City’s nightlife and dining scene and has stayed there ever since.  Very convivial sports pub atmosphere and a popular meeting place for Belize’s who’s who crowd.

A gleaming, four-sided bar, with bottles lining back-lit shelves, stands in the centre of this upscale tavern.  Settle inside in air-conditioned comfort at one of the ample wooden tables set around the huge bar, or on the normally breezy outdoor covered deck overlooking the Haulover Creek.

And their menu…., what can you say?  It is complete, well, it has everything except for rice and beans.  The Riverside Tavern’s huge signature burgers come in six, ten and sixteen ounce sizes with all the trimming and fries too.  They are arguably the best in Belize. Riverside serves everything from pub snacks to classy American/Caribbean cuisine. Belize’s national beer, Belikin is served ice cold off the tap and the service is excellent.

Come nightfall, the tavern swells with a lively crowd of Belizean high rollers and travellers.  The tavern’s prices serve as a barrier to the hoi polli.

This is one of the few restaurants in Belize with a dress code.  Shorts are not allowed at night.

The fenced, guarded parking lot right in front of the restaurant makes it easy and safe to park.

Parking is free and so is their wi-fi.
