Punta Gorda is in the southern most part of the country and the most desolate district of the country. Punta Gorda is the capital for the Toledo district and has a population of approximately 8,000. It is almost 210 miles via road from Belize City and is about a five hour drive.
You will need to anchor and go ashore via tender. You will have more than enough water. Anchorage is exposed and as such can be rough and rolly.
The officials in Punta Gorda comprises of Customs, Immigration, Health, Quarantine and the Belze Port Authroity and they are all located in one single building about 100 yards from the dock. Of all the ports of entry and exit formalities here is will be the simplest, easiest and quickest port to clear in or out from.
All the officials are centrally located in one building which is located on the sea side right in the center of town It is easy to locate the newly constructed white concrete building with “WELCOME TO BELIZE” which can be easily seen from the anchorage. Also right in front of the building is a short, high, old concrete pier with about 10 feet of water. GPS for this pier is 16°06.012N - 088°48.056W.
For inbound clearance procedures for Punta Gorda you will put your tender in to go ashore to visit the officials. At times, especially for the larger yacht they will want to pay a visit aboard.
Normal working hours is Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00.
