Man Of War Caye

Email Print PDF

Lying along the northern border of South Water Caye Marine Reserve is Man-of-War-Caye.  The island is mostly covered with tall red mangrove, but in reality it is the three different types of mangrove vegetation which provides a perfect sanctuary to a variety of indigenous bird species including Pelicans, Brown Bobby birds, and the Magnificent Frigate birds also known as Man-of-War birds.

The island supports up to 350 nesting birds, including one of the ten largest colonies of the Magnificent Frigate Birds and Brown Boobies (Sula leucogaster) in the Caribbean.
