Hunting Caye

Hunting Caye is one of the last cayes all the way south on the main barrier reef, lying within the Sapodilla Marine Reserve and the Sapodilla Range.  It is approximately a 1½ hour boat ride from Punta Gorda, which is approximately 40 miles to the WSW and 0.5 km away from Lime Caye, which is to south.

Hunting Caye has a high coral sandy beach, which is easily distinguished by the shape of half moon, which is on the eastern shore. This beach is also an important nesting site for the Hawksbill turtle.

Lying to the north of Hunting Caye is a channel averaging 70 to 80 feet with the shallowest area of 45 feet, as shown below, and north of the channel is Nicholas Caye.

Hunting Caye is the most developed caye within the Sapodilla Marine Reserve.  Ashore you will find a manned lighthouse station,
