  • Hol Chan is an underwater park established in 1987.

  • Located approximately 4 miles south of San Pedro, or about a 15 minute boat ride.
  • The reserve encompasses about 3 square miles.
  • Due to its protected status no fishing is allowed.  What was once a depleted fishing area has now been allowed to re-generate, providing an unparalleled diving/snorkeling experience for visitors and an important refuge for marine life along the northern section of the Belize Barrier Reef.
  • Identified have been160 species of fish, 40 species of corals, 5 sponges, 8 algaes, 2 seagrasses, 3 marine mammals and 3 species of sea turtle.
  • Hol Chan is mayan for “little channel”.
  • Visitors rules include:

1) No anchoring.
2) No touching of coral.
3) No fishing.

  • Warden goes around collecting entrance fees.
