When navigating in Belizean waters, especially inside the reef north of Belize City you may bump into many sticks or wooden poles in the water. Some yachts even end up putting a “stick watch”.
Belizean fishermen plant sticks in random patterns to find where they have placed their lobster traps. If you are lucky they placed a large stick which can be easily seen, but many times it is just a short stub sticking out of the water.
