Extreme care needs to be taken whenever anchoring in Belize. Not only does the Government not want any anchors, but not even the anchor chain do they want in, around or near corals. The local guides are very familiar as to where the corals are and should any of them think your anchor or anchor chain is even rubbing the corals, they will go down, take pictures and call the relevant authorities. So please be careful and take this into consideration when anchoring.
The fines are hefty, lawyers expensive, yacht gets tied up, captains get jailed and it really isn’t worth the while. Always make sure to anchor in grass or sandy bottoms. We are sorry to keep repeating this, but it is a point we cannot stress enough.
